Pemerintah melalui Kementerian Kehutanan siap memulai langkah bersejarah yakni menyelamatkan Badak Jawa (Rhinoceros sondaicus)<\/em>\u00a0dari ancaman kepunahan. Upaya ini dilakukan melalui program translokasi Badak Jawa dari habitat aslinya di Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon (TNUK) ke kawasan khusus konservasi yang lebih aman dan terkendali.<\/p>\n

Kick-off<\/em>\u00a0translokasi dijadwalkan berlangsung bulan Agustus ini dan akan dipimpin langsung oleh Menteri Kehutanan, Raja Juli Antoni. Agenda ini sekaligus menjadi tanda dimulainya \u201cOperasi Merah Putih\u201d, nama resmi untuk seluruh rangkaian penyelamatan Badak Jawa.<\/p>\n

Populasi Badak Jawa saat ini hanya ada di TNUK. Ketergantungan pada satu habitat membuat satwa ikonik dunia ini sangat rentan seperti bencana alam, wabah penyakit, hingga rendahnya variasi genetik bisa sewaktu-waktu mengancam kelestarian mereka.<\/p>\n

Karena itu, pemerintah bersama para ahli dan mitra konservasi menyiapkan strategi penyelamatan jangka panjang agar Badak Jawa memiliki masa depan yang lebih aman.<\/p>\n

Translokasi bukan sekadar memindahkan satwa, tapi proses panjang dan hati-hati yang sudah dipersiapkan sejak bertahun-tahun lalu dan melalui sejumlah tahapan, diantaranya:<\/p>\n

  1. Persiapan Lapangan \u2013 Survei populasi, pemetaan habitat, pembangunan fasilitas\u00a0pit-trap<\/em>\u00a0(perangkap aman), boma (kandang sementara), hingga akses logistik.<\/li>\n
  2. Pemilihan Individu \u2013 Seleksi badak dilakukan dengan mempertimbangkan umur, jenis kelamin, kondisi kesehatan, dan nilai genetik berdasarkan penelitian DNA selama lima tahun terakhir.<\/li>\n
  3. Pengamanan & Medis \u2013 Badak diamankan menggunakan metode yang aman, kemudian diperiksa kesehatannya sebelum masuk masa adaptasi.<\/li>\n
  4. Transportasi \u2013 Pemindahan dilakukan dengan pengawasan ketat, baik lewat darat maupun laut, menuju lokasi tujuan di\u00a0Javan Rhino Study and Conservation Area (JRSCA)<\/em>.<\/li>\n
  5. Pelepasan & Monitoring \u2013 Setelah dilepaskan di\u00a0paddock<\/em>\u00a0JRSCA seluas 40 hektar, badak akan dipantau intensif menggunakan kamera jebak dan sistem pelacakan satelit.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Dirjen Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam dan Ekosistem (KSDAE), Satyawan Pudyatmoko, menegaskan seluruh tahapan dilakukan dengan standar internasional dan prinsip kesejahteraan satwa.<\/p>\n

    “Keselamatan Badak Jawa adalah prioritas utama,” ungkapnya.<\/p>\n

    Program ini tidak hanya melibatkan Kementerian Kehutanan, tapi juga didukung oleh TNI\/Polri, akademisi, peneliti, NGO, dunia usaha, serta masyarakat. Dengan kerja bersama, pemerintah optimistis Badak Jawa akan memiliki populasi yang lebih sehat dan berkelanjutan di masa depan.<\/p>\n

    Indonesia Government Takes a Major Step to Save the Javan Rhino<\/strong><\/h5>\n

    The Government, through the Ministry of Forestry, is set to embark on a historic step to save the Javan Rhino (Rhinoceros sondaicus<\/em>) from the threat of extinction. This effort will be carried out through a Javan Rhino translocation program, moving individuals from their natural habitat in Ujung Kulon National Park (UKNP) to a special conservation area that is safer and more controlled.<\/p>\n

    The translocation kick-off is scheduled for this August and will be led directly by the Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni. This agenda also marks the official launch of \u201cOperasi Merah Putih\u201d (Red and White Operation, Red and White are colour of Indonesia’s flag), the official name for the entire Javan Rhino rescue initiative.<\/p>\n

    The Javan Rhino population currently exists only in UKNP. Relying on a single habitat makes this world\u2019s iconic species highly vulnerable\u2014natural disasters, disease outbreaks, and low genetic diversity could at any time threaten their survival.<\/p>\n

    Therefore, the government, together with experts and conservation partners, has prepared a long-term rescue strategy to ensure the Javan Rhino has a safer future.<\/p>\n

    Translocation is not simply about moving animals; it is a careful, multi-year process that has been prepared through a series of steps, including:<\/p>\n

      Field Preparation<\/strong> \u2013 Population surveys, habitat mapping, construction of pit-trap (safe traps), boma (temporary enclosures), and logistical access.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Individual Selection<\/strong> \u2013 Rhinos are chosen based on age, sex, health condition, and genetic value, supported by DNA research over the last five years.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Security & Medical Care<\/strong> \u2013 Rhinos are secured using safe methods, followed by health examinations before entering an adaptation period.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Transportation<\/strong> \u2013 Transfers are carried out under strict supervision, both by land and sea, to the designated site at the Javan Rhino Study and Conservation Area (JRSCA).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Release & Monitoring<\/strong> \u2013 After being released into a 40-hectare paddock at JRSCA, rhinos will be closely monitored using camera traps and satellite tracking systems.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE), Satyawan Pudyatmoko, emphasized that all stages are implemented under international standards and animal welfare principles. “The safety of the Javan Rhino is our top priority,” he stated.<\/p>\n

      This program involves not only the Ministry of Forestry but is also supported by the military and police (TNI\/Polri), academics, researchers, NGOs, the private sector, and local communities.
