This boat, donated by Save The Rhino International (SRI) through International Rhino Foundation (IRF), marked its service for a number of times. With the boat RPU didt especial operations and patrols in north area of Way Kambas NP and also Wako resort , where according to RPU experience, it is the entrance ofmany illegal poachers entering Way Kambas NP.
Recently, RPU patrol of early to middle of May covered the north area of Way Kambas NP using the Unicorn II. Unit by Unit were deployed to targeted area based on informant’s information and succeeded to arrest several illegal fishers fishing inside the park.
On 7 Mei 2014, unit I RPU way Kambas succeeded to arrest one suspect who poached fresh water fish in north area of Way kambas and perhaps another illegal activity. RPU unit One is responsible to finished the process and by bringing the suspect to Way kambas NP office and Police department for further prosecution.
However, the other units are still focuses to continue the patrol and monitoring. Unit III and IV moved on to central and south area Way Kambas. They found new fresh foot print (14 cm) and new dung of – rhino calf. They assume that the dung and foot prints are from the same rhino they found and videoed last year as the location is about the same where they found last yearn.
The RPU believes that Way Kambas NP need more extra protection from poacher especially in north area and UNICORN II is very helpful and useful for RPU to patrol this area. Thanks to Save The Rhino and International Rhino Foundation for their boat donation for RPU.
